14 weeks

Lately I've been losing the battle against my to-do list. I had every intention of blogging long before now. I've had a few ideas and improvements that I plan on sharing in the coming weeks, so it shouldn't be quiet around here much longer. As of last Friday (not the most recent one, but the one before that), I was 14 weeks along and obviously a tad bit behind on posting the weekly updates. It's been a hectic few weeks around here. Just as we were coming to terms with the possibility of being stuck in Texas for a few months while they cleaned up the flooding in Minot, Alex got new orders for Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 24 hours we had everything packed into my car and were on our way to Alabama to visit family. It took us two days of driving 6-7 hours to get there, we visited with family and friends for 4 days, then we were on the road again, making the 3 day drive to New Mexico. It was an exhausting week and a half, but it felt good to finally be on our way home together. We've been living apart in temporary places for the past year. We drove into Albuquerque on a Friday night, stayed in a hotel for the weekend, and signed the lease for a house on base on Monday.
I've been waiting my entire life to leave my hometown for good. It's all I've thought about for years. Alex and I have been waiting years to have a home, to start a family, and although we're still renting, we're closer than we've ever been. Although we're here because the military said so, we're further away from Alabama than either of us has ever been. We'll both miss our family and the good friends we have there, but I know I won't miss that trapped feeling I always had, that fear that I would never leave. What felt the best was knowing that I was carrying our child towards more opportunity, towards a chance at having more than either of our families have had in the past. I'm glad this time has finally come. We're in the eventually and it feels good.

Excuse the messy hair and no makeup look, and the blurry picture on the right. The husband is a photographer in the making . . . and I'm just a woman in the making, I guess. I haven't quite perfected the whole 'looking pretty all the time' thing.

Baby's Developments:
- Size: ~3 1/2 inches long (about the size of a lemon)!
- Weight: 1.5 ounces
- We're now officially in the second trimester!
- Your muscles have developed enough for you to do some complicated motions like frown, squint, suck your thumb, grasp your feet and the umbilical cord, and you've even started peeing already.
- Your hands and feet are about 1/2 inch long - so tiny.
