Simple Moments • 13 • Ice Cream at IKEA

Monday, February 17, 2014

A few weeks ago we made a trip to IKEA just to get out of the house and basically use the place as a playground because well. . . winter with a toddler. I've pinned all these fun ideas to keep Ev entertained indoors, but she really isn't interested in them for long. We can go throughout the entire list in half a day and destroy the house in the process, so I've given up. We're in survival mode. We're just trying to make it through each day and every once in awhile we venture out of the house and Ev pauses and says 'brr! told (cold)!' and makes her way back to the front door. I nod my head in agreement, 'me too kid, me too.' I have plenty of unlady-like words to say to winter (something along the lines of this), but I try to keep my mouth g-rated, or at least pg-13, so basically winter sucks. We have another winter storm headed our way which will probably keep Alex stranded at work the next few days. This is one of the best days we've had as a family all winter. We went in and walked the whole place, picking out things for our apartment that we hope to move into by the end of next month. The small spaces were especially interesting and we decided we were going to get a loft bed when the time comes. We went to the food court with the intention of buying a hot dog, but we're IKEA noobs so we didn't know that the hot dogs are sold in the cafe, not the food court. So we ate crappy food, then stumbled upon the cafe on our way out and gorged ourselves on more crappy food like real Americans. Ice cream cones are like 50 cents, so I thought 'what the heck,' grabbed one for Ev, and let her have at it. She savored every lick and smiled in between each bite. She gladly shared bites with us, and when she was all done she was a sticky mess, of course, but a happy sticky mess. If only an ice cream cone could solve my sour moods this easily.

  1. she's so cute with her ice cream... my girl's tradition when at ikea is hot chocolate ;)
