You and I spent the weekend in Brooklyn apartment hunting while Papa was on Long Island for drill. I was a little anxious about navigating the city just the two of us, but we fared pretty well. We hopped on and off the subway and ran down the streets of Brooklyn together, trying to make it to apartment showings on time and while it was extremely tiring, I enjoyed it. It felt like home, like our city. The longer we stay in DC, the grumpier you become - the grumpier we all become. We're frustrated and I think you feel that frustration and want a home again as bad as we do. The second we drive into Brooklyn your whole attitude changes - you're relaxed, you're playful, you resemble the kid we left Albuquerque with. Anytime we get in the car, you try to guess where we're going. A few days ago you asked if we were going to 'Evie house' and I said 'no buddy, we're going to cha-chi's house.' You started to cry so I tried to explain to you that we're staying at cha-chi's house for just a little while longer and Evie will have a house really soon in Brooklyn - then you shouted 'YEAH! Me 'cited!' You grit your teeth and shook and wiggled and kicked with excitement. We talk about Brooklyn a lot and I ask you if you like it there and want to live there. You always whisper a sweet and sure 'yeah' and I say 'me too, babe, me too.' We're all really ready for this next chapter of our lives. It will be nice to be us again, together, to be able to say we're going to 'our home.'

'I do not miss childhood, but I miss the way I took pleasure in small things, even as greater things crumbled.
I could not control the world I was in, could not walk away from things or people or moments that hurt,
but I took joy in the things that made me happy.'
Neil Gaiman
